Rules Committee

The Rules Committee maintains the game’s core mechanics and ensures they remain balanced, clear, and fresh. After each event they review how the rules actually played out and clarify anything that caused confusion, and between events they design new content and loot to keep the game evolving.

Purpose

The Rules Committee is responsible for:

  • Maintaining and balancing the game's rules and mechanics
  • Reviewing rules issues that came up during an event, and clarifying or simplifying the wording (published in the game's After Action Report and updated on the wiki as needed).
  • Handling larger rules problems as they arise
  • Resolving unusual rules situations and communicating the outcome to players
  • Deciding what loot belongs in the game
  • Designing Feb Feast and other Epic items

Rules Committee Marshals

The First Marshals lead the Rules Committee:

  • Christina Mevec
  • James Vertucci
  • Ryan Green

How the Committee Works

The Rules Committee meets after each event to go over rules issues that came up at game and discusses anything that needs clarifying in an AAR, reworded to be easier to understand, or, for larger problems, a more substantial fix.

Members of the Rules Committee meet regularly between events to discuss new items (such as Rituals, Tinkering Items, or Alchemicals), new creatures, and other concepts to keep the game fresh and exciting.

They also use these meetings to discuss large-scale updates to the rules, which then are presented at staff retreat and, if approved, generally are unveiled and take effect at Feb Feast.

The Rules Committee is made up of staff and a small number of invited players; it does not have open recruitment. Please see the information about Workgroups for other ways to help game function!
