Player Outreach & Education Workgroup

The Player Outreach and& Education (Player Outreach or PO&E) workgroup acts as the primary support system for our community. They manage the onboarding process for new players, keep veterans updated on rule changes, and help mediate disputes. In addition to education and recruiting, they are responsible for on-field safety, handling weapon and armor inspections, and acting as referees to ensure events remain safe and welcoming for everyone.

Purpose

The Player Outreach and Education workgroup is in charge of recruiting and training new players, educating on misunderstandings and rules changes, and mediate between players if disputes arise. They:

  • Greet new players when they introduce themselves online
  • Run the new player speech at game (affectionately called the "Newbie Speech")
  • Bring new players on sample plots
  • Work with long term players to keep them up to date on information and changes
  • Assist players who wish to volunteer find a workgroup
  • Gather player feedback to help staff hear the voices of the players

Player Outreach and Education Marshals

  • The Marshal for Player Outreach and Education is Michael Maneri.
  • The Player Outreach and Education Second is Matthew Boulerice.

Volunteering

Player Outreach can use volunteers who want to help with:

  • Teaching players the rules.
  • Inspecting weapons and armor to ensure they meet safety standards.
  • Tabling conventions.
  • Running fighting practices between game events.

During the game members of the Player Outreach & Education Work Group:

  • Watch for unsafe situations.
  • Inspect weapons, shields and armor for safety.
  • Periodically act as referees during game play after the action is done to notify players of things they may have missed.

This is typically educational, but they may issue penalties if they deem it appropriate.
